Offshore Effects and Animation

This slightly comical article on an effects team auctioning itself on ebay, is both funny and disturbing. Offshoring American jobs isn't just steal mills, and clothing. The entertainment industry is heading that way too. Dreamworks is in fact releasing it's first Hong Kong TV series Father Of The Pride. If this show does well, then all of us employs will be seen as expensive cows. I'll have to decide if I want to move to India or change my line of work.

News Map

This is a pretty amazing app. It shows a visual representation of the news stories that are being updated in the ever changing google news. It's pretty amazing to see what stories get reported a lot, and what doesn't. Check it out:

Downloading music does NOT threaten Music Sales study says

Yahoo News reports on a study that's similar to something that I've been saying all along: More access to music means more music fans.

"Consumption of music increases dramatically with the introduction of file sharing, but not everybody who likes to listen to music was a music customer before, so it's very important to separate the two," said Felix Oberholzer-Gee, an associate professor at Harvard Business School and one of the authors of the study.

Friendster

Here's fun video that comments on friendster.

You'll need quicktime.

BTW, I have 11 people in my friendster account:)

iPod's Dirty Secret

It looks like iPod's rechargeable battery only has an 18 month life-span, and can not be replaced. One iPod customer found this out, the hard way, and got angry. So what did he do? He made a quicktime movie about it and published it on the internet. This is a great culturejaming way to fight back. I'm pretty disappointed in Apple, their designs are the best in the business. I can only imagine that they must have known about this or did it on purpose. Anyway, check out the video:

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

I saw this movie last night. It's really very good. One of the smartest films I've seen in a long time. It's directed by Michel Gondry, who directed a lot of very goodmusic videos that they play at res fest. He has a very strong visual style, and he likes to stick to cheap camera tricks instead of relying on digital manipulation, which really does a lot for his film making. I was pleasantly surprised to see that his style shows through in the film, and doesn't get in the way of the story. Charlie Kaufman wrote the story. He's well know for his writing of Being John Malkovich. I personally didn't care for Being John Malkovich, I felt the characters were too much alike. But I did like the writing in this film. The characters are very unique and fun. Anyway some famous actors are in it and they do a good job too. So go see it if you get a chance, it's worth paying extra to see it on a big screen!

Bush Makes Fun

Bush pokes fun at the search for weapons of mass destruction. Yep, leading the world into a war under false pretenses is really funny.

RSS

After reading the Wired magazine article on RSS, I decided to play around with Bloglines it's a RSS reader for blogs. Basically if you read a lot of blogs, you can use this website to keep track of when you blogs have a new posting. It's been pretty cool so far. I've looked into adding a RSS feature to my blogs and it looks easy enough I may do it in the near future. But don't expect it soon. I still have to scan all our wedding photos first, and if you've been following our baby blog, you'll know Allison and I have been busy preparing our house for the new one. Yha, don't expect it too soon:)

An update.....finally!

Wow, so I haven't updated this blog in quite a while. Is anyone still looking at it or did everyone give up?
So I've been out getting married and working on our upcoming baby. Now everything is starting to settle down again I'll be updating this blog again.

First up: watch Rumsfeld eat his own words on live TV:

http://www.moveon.org/censure/caughtonvideo/

I have to say this is a pretty big flub for Rumsfeld. It's one thing to lie about having sex with an intern. It's another to lie and have hundreds of people die because of it.
