HAPPY THANKS GIVING

Yep, today is thanks giving. So today Allison and I ordered "Thanksgiving In A Box" from Whole Foods. We had Allison's Mom and Tiana up for Dinner. I have to say that Whole Foods did it right. The food was really good. And the best part is there's lots of leftovers for turkey sadwitches for later:)

Opus will be back

On November 23 my favorite comic artist will be back in the Sunday papers with his new comic strip. In expectation of this comic strip, Opus (not Berkely Breathead) has given a couple interviews:

QOTD

I must admit from the outset that I can't understand why a company that claims to care about animal welfare would continue to allow chickens to be bred and drugged to be so top-heavy that they can barely walk.

The End of The World

Pretty funny:

The End of The World

Cookin' With Google

I've used this website quite a few times. It uses the Google search engine to come up with recipes. You just enter in the ingredients you have and it spits out websites that have recipes for those ingredients. Pretty cool. We're having baked garlic potatoes tonight thanks to Cooking With Google:)

Florida Shut Down!

I just received word that Disney has decided to shut down its animation facility in Florida. There's no word on what they plan on doing with the facility. This is important because it was the last large hand drawn animation facility in the US. Now everyone is turning to computer graphics.

It's a weird double edge sward. When Pixar first started making Toy Story all the classily trained animators laughed at the attempt. In fact it was wildly believed that if you left your traditional job to seek out a computer job at Pixar you were throwing your career away. The argument was that there was no possible way to breath life into a computer. It was a kind of New Age belief that you had to have contact with the character it's self in order to make it seem real. But the fact of the matter is most of these animators were ignoring their own education. Everyone says Story is King but no lives it. “Toy Story” came out just after “Pocahontas” and pretty much blew it out of the water. Story is King. Also all of the old time animators kept saying that timing and spacing is more important then the drawing itself. That's all computers are, timing and spacing. Now the same animators who were advising staying away from the computer because you'll ruin your career are looking for work.

But that’s not the real problem. The real problem is, this will happen again. And soon! Once people become to snobbish about computer animation over any other medium then the story will loose out again and we'll find ourselves right back where we are today. Pixar will be closing its doors and other animation facilities will be opening up with hand drawn animation, or whatever new medium comes along. I'm fortunate enough to be in the field what is growing while others are closing, but I'm not stupid enough to think it will last forever.

Good buy Disney Florida. I really liked “Lelo and Stich”.

Elephant

Here's a cool revew of the Movie "Elephant"

http://www.suntimes.com/output/ebert1/wkp-news-elephant07f.html

It was directed by Gus Van Sant the same guy who brought us the amazing films of "My Own Private Idaho" "Drugstore Cowboy" andd "Good Will Hunting"
Of corse he also did the remake of Psycho which I'll never forgive him for, but hay, we all make mistakes.

Awesome Graffiti web site

A friend of mine put together this Awesome Graffiti website. It basically takes the same location of a place in San Francisco and documents it over time. That way you can see how the new graffiti interacts with the old stuff. Very cool.
