Shrek's Blog

Check it out. Apparently the guy who wears the Shrek Costume at Universal Theme Park has his own Blog. If you haven't seen what this guy looks like, take a look at the photo. This is for the Shrek 4D ride that they put in the three Universal Parks (California, Florida, Japan).

The Radio just said it's supposed to get up to 107 degrees today. I'm going around the house and making sure everything is turned off, including this computer. See ya!

    Summer Has Arrived!!!

It’s hot! “It’s like Africa heat out there,” -Ben said today.

Summer has struck, and like a thief in the night, it has struck all of a sudden. A couple days ago I was getting used to the idea of wearing socks to bed. Then the very next day I find myself living in the kind of summer heat that does not cool down when the sun has set. I don’t feel as bad for myself as I do the cats. Sure I have to struggle through balmy nights, but I get to go to an air-conditioned building all day. The cats have to struggle though the days in our hot house. Well at least I’m over my flu. Hot is bad, but hot and sick would be worse.

I’m about a third the way though Harry Potter 5. I’d be a lot further along, but I’ve found it difficult to find time to read these days. So far it’s been a fun book. It’s a lot better then the last book. Harry Potter 4, as good as it was, was very obviously rushed out. Probably due to pressure from the publishers to get the book in stores while the iron is hot. J.K.R. was smart to hold off on publishing this book until she got it right. Although I’m sure she had to bear with a lot of pressure from the publishers to get this book out sooner. (Especially with Hong Kong releasing a Harry Potter book before she does:) Publishers be damned. Polish it until it’s right or you’ll loose your audience.

Work has been work. I really wish I could describe what work is like day-to-day, but I worry. It’s not like I have a high profile job or anything, but I work for Hollywood, and the Harry Knowles of the world prevent me from describing what I do over the web. Today we all got free posters. They’re teaser posters, so there’s noting to them. I’m sure you’ll be seeing them all over the place But the June 18th release date glared at me from the bottom of the page. Better get to work.

What I can say is the film looks great. 10 times better then the last one.

This is something I'll be watching closely. As everyone knows Pixar & Disney has been working together to put out films. Honestly I believe if they had never struck up this deal, not only would the industry of computer animated feature films not exist, but the animation industry would have fallen flat on it's face and become like it was in the 1980s. In the deal Pixar made the product, but Disney would distribute it. The contract that the two companys were working with was always a bad one. Disney made the most money and Pixar took all of the risk. But now with Nemo looking like it'll be the biggest grossing animated feature film ever, Pixar will want to re-negotiate it's contract with Disney. It'll be interesting to see how it turns out. Pixar is responsible for %45 of Disney's gross sense 1995, so Disney's not going to want to hand over all it's income. I've alwayse believed that Pixar has alwayse wanted to strike it out on it's own. But they just simply don't have the distribution power that Disney has. And no company out there does. And it looks like it'll all go down in the next couple weeks.

JVC just released the first consumer level HD DV camcorder. Very impressive. It's $3,000 which is far more then I can afford, but that's the early adapter price. The fact that it'll go down from there is impressive! Also this is really cheep for a indi. film crew to afford. Over all it's a smart move on JVC's part. Now I only wonder how much hard drive space a HD-rez film shot will eat up:)

Today I worked on my Sony Computer. My plan has been to take my old computer and turn it into an MP3 Jukebox. They sell these cheep devices that allows you to play your MP3s on you home stereo over the wi-fi network. There are even simple plans on how to hook it up to a portable boom box so you can carry it around the house. That way you can play any of your MP3s or Internet radio stations anywhere the wi-fi network will carry it. But so far it hasn’t been that easy. My old computer has 6gigs of hard drive space. Not enough to hold my music collection. Hard Drives are cheep these days. Frys had a 120G hard drive for really cheep, so I picked one up.

But so far I’ve had a lot of trouble re-installing the OS. For a Short while I thought about switching to Linux, but I didn’t think I was going to be that computer-savvy. So today I decided to bite the bullet and took it to a professional. He said he could get it installed no problem. We’ll see what happens, I hope it’s not a lost cause. And I hope I don’t end up spending more money then I would on a Creative Labs Zen (60G). My only consolation is the fact that I’d have to stick the music on a computer to get it onto a Zen in the first place:)

I managed to pick up a copy of Harry Potter 5 this morning. It was no problem. The bookstore had huge stacks of the book behind the counter. I wonder how many copies the book has sold?? There was news reports last week claming that it had been too long and that this book wouldn’t sell as much. After last night I believe those reports are completely wrong.

But now I'm torn. I'm in the middle of reading William Gibson's Pattern Recognition. I'm really enjoying Gibson's book, but I know it's going to take me a while to finish it. A lot longer then it’ll take me to read Harry Potter.

Harry Potter Book 5 came out today. I, of course, tried to pick up a copy of the book at midnight. But alas…I was denied. I probably would have had better luck if I actually tried pre-ordering it. But I honestly didn’t think it’d be that difficult to get a copy. Silly me. This probably has more to do with the fact that I’ve never paid for any of the copies that I have read:)

Nothing much else happened today. Allison is sick. I passed my flu on to her. I’m still hacking up what’s left of the flu but I’m well over the bug. I finally got the Blog to work! Man…it took a long time to get it all worked out. But Brian helped me out and it’s all working now. Now with this post I’m going to try and figure out how to add a picture and a web link. So here’s the picture:
